Energy saving tips

Preheated oven only if necessary!

It might sounds obvious, but we should only preheat ovens if it is really reasonable. Modern ovens needs only a few minutes to warm up, there is no need to turn it on hours before cooking.

Cooking with care

We should pay attention to our pans and pots as well. For the quickest warm up we should put them on the middle of the hotplate. Pay attention to the usage of suitable sizes of pots and pans for saving energy, and using lids when boiling water.

Showers instead of baths

It is proven that taking a shower instead of a bath uses less water. That means we don’t need that much warm water for taking a shower. You need a heating system for the water to warm up, which needs a lot of energy so using less warm water leads to energy saving. What is more showers are much more freshening as well.

Close the taps

In our everyday life we have a couple of thing for what we need hot water. But if we use it consciously besides the water we can save energy also, because you need energy for warming up the water. We should close up taps during brushing our teeth, or washing the dishes.

Minimize air conditioning

There will be times, of course, when summer heat will force you to use the air conditioning system. However, use the AC moderately. By the evening when the weather becomes cooler, do not use A/C, rather roll down the window.

Insulation

The best long term solution is the change of the old windows and doors to modern ones. It might be costly, but it increases the efficiency of the heating system, and preserve the temperature for a longer time.

Free flow of heat

Do not place items on the heating system or in front of it because it can block the flow of warm. Try to put the curtains behind the radiator so it won’t cover them. Dust can also reduce heating efficiency. We should clean radiators at least once a week unless it will be unable to heat.

Take a look at the car

The 20% of gas consumption of the car depends on the tires. The tire continuously touches the road so it always has to fight with rolling resistance. Tires have a sticker on which you can see their RCC class from A to G. A links for the most efficient G for the least efficient tire. It also matters how much air is in the tires. We should always check the pressure.

Use cruise control

Cruise control means that your car will be going at a constant velocity, which means there is no acceleration. No acceleration reduces the amount of work your engine does, and therefore it uses less gas.

Reduce weight in the vehicle

Get rid of all unnecessary items in your car's trunk or other areas of the vehicle. By making sure your vehicle remains as light as possible, you can cut back on the fuel consumption of your vehicle and save money on your fuel bill. Also, reduce drag by putting bulky items inside the vehicle or trunk instead of on a roof rack.

Maintain Vehicle Efficiency

Regular maintenance as prescribed by the vehicle owner's manual will help your vehicle achieve its best fuel economy. Some overlooked maintenance items, such as a dirty air filter and under-inflated tires, can increase your fuel cost up to 13%. When replacing your tires, replace them with the same model that were on your vehicle when it was new.
